Plot summary
Ray once worked in crime, and someone tried to have him killed in the desert; he came out of it alive and left that life behind. Two years on he works as an insurance investigator, lives in an RV, and has a girlfriend, Faith, whose son Julian lives with her. Faith asks him to move in. Then Lupe, who is in prison, calls Ray: gangsters have seen Ray visiting him. A message from Perry brings Ray to Grayson, a mobster who sets him two tasks, poisoning a neighbor's tree and intercepting a package bound for a woman called Shoemaker. Grayson says Faith and Julian will die if Ray refuses.
