Scorcher (2002) on Netflix

Plot summary

Colonel Ryan Beckett, a renegade soldier, is summoned by the President after a Chinese nuclear test loosens the Earth's subterranean plates and exposes the core, leaving the planet three days from a fiery end. Beckett assembles a team of scientists and soldiers to detonate two nuclear bombs at once in Los Angeles, the only spot where the blasts can stop the plates from shifting. As the city empties in panic, Beckett's teenage daughter Faith is taken by a religious-fanatic pyromaniac. On the team, he grows close to Julie, a scientist locked in a feud with her father, Dr. Matthew Sallin. Special Agent Kellaway, who despises Beckett, is also along for the mission.
