John Benjamin Hickey

Biography

John Benjamin Hickey is an American actor and director who works across stage, film and television. Born in Plano, Texas, he studied theater at Texas State University before earning a degree in English at Fordham University. His Broadway break came as Arthur in Terrence McNally's Love! Valour! Compassion!, a part he created in 1995 and reprised in the 1997 film. His supporting film work includes The Anniversary Party (2001), Flightplan (2005), Flags of Our Fathers (2006), Infamous (2006), Then She Found Me (2007), Freedom Writers (2007) and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). He won the 2011 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play for The Normal Heart. On television he appeared in The Big C from 2010 to 2013, earning an Emmy nomination, and starred as Frank Winter in Manhattan. He also directed the 2022 Broadway revival of Plaza Suite.
