Judith Ivey
Biography
Judith Ivey is an American actress and theater director who was born in El Paso, Texas, and built her career largely in the theater before moving into film. She won Tony Awards for her featured performances in Steaming and Hurlyburly, and later received nominations for Park Your Car in Harvard Yard and a revival of The Heiress. Her big screen debut came with the female lead in The Lonely Guy (1984), and she went on to appear in The Woman in Red (1984), Brighton Beach Memoirs (1986), and Sister, Sister (1987), as well as the dramas The Devil's Advocate (1997) and Women Talking (2022). On television, she starred in the sitcom Down Home and played B.J. Poteet during the final season of Designing Women, and her performance in What the Deaf Man Heard (1997) brought an Emmy nomination. She also earned a Lucille Lortel Award for playing Amanda in The Glass Menagerie.
