Plot summary
In St. Augustine, Louisiana, Josie waits at the altar and Liam never arrives. Eight years later he is headlining a country music tour. After a fan steps on his old flip phone, he pays a repair shop to rescue the single message stored on it. Then a news report tells him that Mason, his childhood friend, has died in a car accident. Liam abandons the tour, leaves his manager behind and turns up at the funeral, where Josie punches him. He stays with his father, Pastor Brian, who is bitter about the years of silence. At Josie's flower shop he meets Billy, her seven-year-old daughter, and Josie tells him the girl is his.

- Author Heidi McLaughlin was inspired to write Forever My Girl after seeing a picture of a man on Facebook who looked like he was trying to apologize to a girl; choosing the name Liam Page took her 10 or 15 minutes, and she wrote the first 5,000 words that same night.
- For the role of Liam, Roe had to learn to sing and play the guitar, practicing every day for almost three months with the film's musical supervisor, Brett Boyett; he watched interviews of country music singers for the accent and talked to the group Little Big Town about performing in front of 50,000 people.
- McLaughlin originally pictured the Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr for the role of Josie, and remarked that Rothe resembled a blonde version of Kerr.
