Plot summary
Brian Brown-Easley, a former Lance Corporal in the Marine Corps, is homeless and broke after the VA withholds his $892 monthly disability check over a disputed debt to a for-profit college. He walks into a Wells Fargo branch in Marietta, Georgia, and tells Estel Valerie, the manager, and Rosa Diaz, a teller, that his backpack holds a bomb. He asks them to lock the doors, lets the other customers go, and makes no demand for money: he wants the VA to correct the error. He calls 911 himself and then a local news outlet. Police, SWAT units and reporters gather outside while Eli Bernard, a crisis negotiator and fellow veteran, tries to build rapport with him.
