Plot summary
Two years before the series begins, Sam Axe is a Navy SEAL commander called before Admiral Lawrence to account for a mission in Colombia, and he tells the story himself. An affair with a superior officer's wife, which he had not known about, brings him a dangerous assignment: locate the group called the Espada Ardiente and judge whether American support is needed against it. In Colombia he meets his new team, among them Comandante Veracruz, and visits a small clinic deep in the jungle to tell its staff they are in danger. Charity worker Amanda Maples and doctor Ben Delaney wave off his warning.
