Iain Glen

Biography

Iain Glen is a Scottish actor who was born in Edinburgh and trained at RADA in London, where he won the Bancroft Gold Medal. He made his film debut in Paris by Night and appeared in Gorillas in the Mist (1988). In 1990 he was named Best Actor at the Berlin International Film Festival for Silent Scream, receiving the Silver Bear, and played Hamlet in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead (1990). His screen work includes Mountains of the Moon (1990), Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001), Song for a Raggy Boy (2003), and three Resident Evil films. On television he has appeared as Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones and in Jack Taylor, Downton Abbey, Titans, The Rig, and Silo. On stage he has played Hamlet, Macbeth, and Henry V, and received three Laurence Olivier Award nominations.

Early training
Iain Glen won the Bancroft Gold Medal and earned an Acting (RADA) Diploma when he graduated in 1985. He had chosen RADA in London because no other drama school was holding auditions then.
