Plot summary

After escaping the Hive, Alice wakes in a deserted hospital to find Raccoon City under Umbrella quarantine. The zombie outbreak has spread from the underground facility, and the company seals the only bridge out, trapping residents. Jill Valentine, a demoted S.T.A.R.S. member, returns to her precinct as the streets fill with the undead. Carlos Olivera and other abandoned Umbrella soldiers join surviving police units. Dr. Charles Ashford's daughter, Angela, goes missing during the evacuation. Her father hacks into the city's CCTV system and offers Alice and the survivors a way out if they find her. Umbrella also deploys Nemesis, a mutated supersoldier, to track and destroy them. Alice leads the group toward the missing girl as Umbrella prepares to destroy the city.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • The role of L.J. was written specifically for Snoop Dogg, but he dropped out of production and was replaced by Mike Epps, with the character rewritten to suit Epps's personality.
  • Milla Jovovich and Matthew Taylor spent several hours a day for six weeks practicing martial arts together for the fight between Alice and Nemesis, which was originally scripted for a train station full of props but ended up shot in an open space outside Toronto City Hall.
  • Nemesis was created with a costume rather than CGI, the only digital touch being an adjustment to his eye. Taylor was chosen because his height of 6.7 ft and weight of 320 lb suited the character, his costume weighed about 65 lb, and aspect ratios were still modified to make him appear 10-20% larger in certain scenes.
  • Marcus Nispel was hired to make a teaser trailer called Regenerate, which purports to advertise a skin rejuvenation product created by the Umbrella Corporation before the woman in the commercial turns into a zombie; by May 2004 it had been downloaded 8.5 million times from the film's official website.
  • Mr. X Inc. handled the destruction of the Toronto City Hall building: four months were spent making a 43 ft, 1/6 scale model of it with 1,600 panes of glass, each one wired with an explosive to create the final effect.
  • Actors playing zombies spent four days training with choreographers at a zombie "boot camp" so their behavior and movements stayed consistent. Anderson and other crew members considered making the zombies move faster, but decided it would break a fundamental element of the games.
