Plot summary
Mark Rua brings his wife Maria and their children, teenage Regina and young Paul, from the United States to his native Spain, settling into a large country house outside Barcelona and living nearer to his father Albert, a physician in the city. Mark's Huntington's disease advances, causing seizures and growing instability. The house suffers constant electrical trouble, and the outages sharpen the friction among Regina, Mark and Maria; Regina worries about her father's health while Maria avoids the subject. Paul is unsettled by things he cannot explain in the house and comes to dread the dark. Apparitions of children appear around Regina, who does not notice them, and a stranger watches the property from the road. Decades earlier, six children went missing in that countryside during an occult ritual that was never finished.
