Biography

Hilary Swank is an American actress and film producer who has won two Academy Awards for Best Actress, two Golden Globe Awards, two Critics' Choice Awards and an Actor Award, and was nominated for a BAFTA Award. Born in Lincoln, Nebraska, she grew up in Bellingham, Washington and made her first screen appearance in the 1992 comedy horror Buffy the Vampire Slayer, taking her first leading part as Julie Pierce in The Next Karate Kid (1994). After playing Carly Reynolds on Beverly Hills, 90210, she won an Oscar and a Golden Globe as Brandon Teena in Kimberly Peirce's Boys Don't Cry (1999), then repeated both for Clint Eastwood's Million Dollar Baby (2004), as a female boxer. Later work includes portraying Amelia Earhart in Amelia (2009), which she co-executive produced, and Alice Paul in the HBO film Iron Jawed Angels (2004), a part that brought her an Actor Award nomination and a Golden Globe Award nomination.
