Plot summary
Annie Wilson supports her three sons in the small Georgia town of Brixton by giving psychic readings to her neighbors. Her client Valerie Barksdale is married to Donnie Barksdale, a violent man who has threatened Annie's family since she advised Valerie to leave him. Annie also knows Buddy Cole, a mechanic at an auto repair shop who struggles with his mental health. When Jessica King, the fiancée of school principal Wayne Collins, goes missing, Jessica's wealthy father presses Sheriff Pearl Johnson to consult Annie. Fragmented images of Jessica come to Annie unbidden, and the sheriff turns to her readings for a lead.
