Juliet Devereau is an emergency room physician in New York. After catching her husband Jack with another woman, she files for divorce and hunts for an apartment where she can live on her own, and she finds a bargain in an old Brooklyn building owned by Max. Juliet still has feelings for Jack. At a party she runs into Max and flirts with him; on the walk home she kisses him and then pulls back, and though they go on a date, she tells him it is too soon.
