Plot summary
Kate, a classical pianist, notices her hands shaking while she plays for friends at a dinner party, and she is later diagnosed with ALS. Her husband Evan tries to help at home, and Kate, who dismissed her last caregiver for making her feel like a patient, hires Bec, a college student who says she helped care for her grandmother through the same disease. Bec is clumsy with the work and often arrives late and hungover until Kate tells her to stop making excuses. Bec rooms with her friend Jill, keeps up an affair with her married professor Liam, and meets Wil at a bar.
