Plot summary
Miyagi travels to Arlington National Cemetery for a ceremony honoring Japanese-American troops of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He meets Louisa Pierce, whose husband had been his commanding officer, and visits her Boston home, where her granddaughter Julie lives. Julie has been angry since her parents died in a car crash, and her behavior has caused friction with her grandmother, teachers and classmates. She enters the school after dark to tend an injured Harris's hawk, Angel, in a rooftop pigeon coop. Miyagi has Louisa stay at his Los Angeles home while he remains in Boston to look after Julie. Julie befriends Eric McGowen, a pledge in the Alpha Elite, a school security fraternity run by Paul Dugan. When Julie jumps into a tiger position to dodge a car, Miyagi recognizes her skill, and she asks him to teach her.
