Biography

Fisher Stevens is an American actor who also works as a director, producer and writer. Born in Chicago and raised in the Chicago area, he landed his first film role at sixteen in the horror film The Burning (1981). He became best known for playing the robotics scientist Ben Jabituya in Short Circuit (1986) and Short Circuit 2 (1988), and his other films include Reversal of Fortune (1990), Hackers (1995), Anything Else (2003), Hail, Caesar! (2016) and Wes Anderson's The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014), Isle of Dogs (2018) and Asteroid City (2023). On television he played Chuck Fishman in Early Edition and Hugo Baker in Succession. On stage he appeared in A Midsummer Night's Dream in 1988 and later directed John Leguizamo's one-man show Ghetto Klown. He also directed the documentaries Crazy Love (2007) and Before the Flood (2016) and won an Academy Award as a producer of The Cove (2009).

    Stevens co-produced The Cove with director Louie Psihoyos. In 2010, the pair took home the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature at the 82nd Academy Awards.

    Stevens directed John Leguizamo's one-man show Ghetto Klown, first called Klass Klown, for his major theatrical directing debut in June 2010. The production later reached Broadway, where it ran from March to July 2011.
