Slow Burn (2005) on Netflix

Plot summary

Cole has promised voters that he will catch Danny Ludin, the crime boss who has long eluded the city, and he is running for mayor on that pledge. Nora Timmer is his best prosecutor and also his lover. While a reporter, Ty Trippin, waits to interview him, Cole hears that Nora has shot a man. She says the man was assaulting her. A short time later Luther Pinks, who describes himself as an associate of the man she shot, comes to Cole's office with a different account of the same events. He says the killing was not self-defense. Cole asks for a few hours to work through a mess that widens into political corruption, land deals and shell corporations.
