Plot summary
Christine Paley is a rookie cop, bright and eager to be out on the streets chasing bad guys. The job instead keeps her inside a police station, processing the people officers bring in, and that assignment disappoints her. Lt. Mike Brosloe, a tough but likable mentor, supervises her and is with her for her first shift, which is meant to be a normal night at the station. Roughly eight kinds of arrests come through during it, the sort that can turn up in an ordinary month, and Brosloe is beside her as each one arrives at the desk.
