Danny Hoch

Danny Hoch is an American performer, actor and writer who works in theater and film. Raised in New York, he built his early reputation on one-man shows, following Pot Melting with Some People, which HBO aired in the mid-1990s and which brought him wider notice and larger touring crowds. Jails, Hospitals and Hip-Hop and Some People were collected in a 1998 book, their monologues drawing on the multilingual city of his youth, in Cuban and Dominican Spanish, Jamaican Patois and Trinidadian English. He started the Hip-Hop Theater Festival in 2000, and he has won two Obie Awards, a Sundance Writers Fellowship and a CalArts Alpert Award in Theatre, with United States Artists giving him a fellowship in 2010. His stage work includes Taking Over in 2008 and a part in Ethan Coen's Talking Cure. On screen he wrote and starred in Whiteboyz, appeared in Spike Lee's Bamboozled, and took a role in 2007's We Own the Night.
