Plot summary
The daughter of the late rock musician Tommy Gunn, Molly Gunn has lived on her father's trust fund since he and her mother died in a plane crash when she was a child. Her friends Huey and Ingrid throw her a birthday party, where she meets the singer Neal Fox, and the two spend days together at her apartment until he leaves. Molly then learns that her father's accountant has taken her money, leaving her with debts and no home, and Ingrid takes her in and tells her to find work. She is hired as nanny to eight-year-old Lorraine "Ray" Schleine, a hypochondriac who keeps to a strict order and quotes Mikhail Baryshnikov about ballet. Ray's mother, Roma, a music executive, pays her little attention, and Ray's father lies in a coma.
