Anne Francis

Biography

Born in Ossining, New York, Anne Francis was an American actress who began in show business as a child model and made her Broadway debut at eleven. After signing with MGM, she had early film roles and her first leading part in Blackboard Jungle (1955). She became known for Bad Day at Black Rock (1955) and for playing Altaira in the science fiction classic Forbidden Planet (1956), which was a first for big-budget color science fiction. On television she starred as the private investigator in Honey West from 1965 to 1966, earning a Golden Globe Award and an Emmy nomination. Later film work included Funny Girl (1968), Brainstorm (1965), and Hook, Line & Sinker (1969). She continued guest roles on many series and her final television appearance was in a 2004 episode of Without a Trace. She died in 2011.
