Audrey Totter
Biography
Audrey Totter was an American actor whose career spanned radio, film, and television. She grew up in Joliet, Illinois, and began acting in Chicago radio in the late 1930s, appearing in soap operas such as Painted Dreams and Ma Perkins. Her success in Chicago and New York City led to a seven-year contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, and her first film appearance came in Main Street After Dark (1945). She became known for film noir, with roles in The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946), Lady in the Lake (1946), and The Set-Up (1949). After MGM released her from her contract in the early 1950s, she worked steadily in television, starring as Alice MacRoberts on Our Man Higgins from 1962 to 1963 and playing Nurse Wilcox on Medical Center from 1972 to 1976. Her final acting role came in a 1987 Murder, She Wrote episode.
