Biography

Sophie Marceau is a French actress who became popular as a teenager with La Boum (1980) and La Boum 2 (1982), winning a César Award for Most Promising Actress. She grew into a European film star with Fort Saganne (1984), L'étudiante (1988), Fanfan (1993), and D'Artagnan's Daughter (1994). International fame came with Braveheart (1995), Firelight (1997), Anna Karenina (1997), and The World Is Not Enough (1999), where she played Elektra King. Later roles included Female Agents (2008), LOL (Laughing Out Loud) (2008), Don't Look Back (2009), Jailbirds (2015), and Everything Went Fine (2021). Marceau has also written a novel and directed the films Speak to Me of Love, Trivial, and Mrs Mills. She won a Molière Award for her theater work in Eurydice. She was made an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2003.
