Plot summary
Clélia is a Canadian photographer whose books show empty streets and fashion models with their faces out of frame. Her move to Paris is for a job at La Verite, the tabloid Rupert MacRoi owns. Her mother, once a cabaret singer who dated MacRoi, comes along and urges her daughter to marry and settle down. Clève, a middle-aged publisher of children's books, invites Clélia to his office and they make love; he is engaged to marry into MacRoi's family, a match that would keep his publishing house afloat. Most of her co-workers at the paper are disillusioned by the dirt they deal in, and her first assignment puts her in a victorious hockey team's locker room, where MacRoi drags her through the showers and holds her close.
