Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Beyond the Clouds (1995)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Michelangelo Antonioni was 83 during production of Beyond the Clouds and had a stroke that left him severely incapacitated; the film was finished with help from Wim Wenders, who wrote its prologue and epilogue and worked on the screenplay.
- The original cut of Beyond the Clouds ran more than two hours and included a longer sex scene between Peter Weller and Chiara Caselli in which Weller performed explicit cunnilingus on the actress; Wim Wenders asked Antonioni to cut it as too close to pornography.
- Producers brought in Wim Wenders as an assistant director in case the ailing Antonioni could not continue; Wenders directed transitional passages that Antonioni opposed, saying "leave my film alone!", though the sequences stayed in.
- Antonioni cut more than half of Wim Wenders' contributions to the film, including almost all of the scenes with Marcello Mastroianni.
- Songs by Bono and Adam Clayton of U2, "Your Blue Room" and "Beach Sequence", were later featured on the album Original Soundtracks 1, credited to the shared pseudonym Passengers.
