Biography

Kenneth Cranham is a British actor who trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and the National Youth Theatre, graduating in 1966. Born in Dunfermline, Fife, he has worked in theater, television, and film. His screen work includes Oliver! (1968), Hellbound: Hellraiser II (1988), Brother Sun, Sister Moon (1972), Up Pompeii (1971), Gangster No. 1 (2000), Layer Cake (2004), and Maleficent (2014). On television he starred as the title character in Shine on Harvey Moon from 1982 to 1985 and appeared in Budgie, Boon, Minder, Rome, War & Peace, and The White Princess. On stage he appeared in West End runs of Loot, Entertaining Mr Sloane, An Inspector Calls, Gaslight, and The Birthday Party. He was nominated for an Olivier Award for An Inspector Calls and later won the Olivier Award for best actor for The Father in 2016. He was appointed a CBE in 2023.
