Plot summary
Gloria Grahame, an Academy Award-winning American actress, is playing Sadie in a London production of Rain in 1979 and lodging in a boarding house, where Peter Turner, a British actor, lives as well. She invites him to rehearse disco steps, they take in Alien together, and after a quarrel they become lovers in spite of the years between them. Later Peter visits her at her home in a Malibu trailer park, where Gloria's mother Jeanne welcomes the match and her sister Joy does not. In October 1981 Gloria is starring as Amanda in The Glass Menagerie in Lancaster when she falls ill, and she calls Peter, who brings her to his family's home in Liverpool to recover.
