Jessica Lange
Biography
Jessica Lange is an American actress and photographer from Cloquet, Minnesota, whose work spans film, television, and the stage. She began on screen in the 1976 remake of King Kong, a performance that brought her a Golden Globe as New Star of the Year. Two Academy Awards followed: Best Supporting Actress for Tootsie (1982), and Best Actress for Blue Sky (1994). She was also nominated for Frances (1982), Country, Sweet Dreams (1985), and Music Box (1989). Her film credits include All That Jazz (1979), The Postman Always Rings Twice (1981), Crimes of the Heart (1986), Cape Fear (1991), Rob Roy (1995), Big Fish (2003), and Broken Flowers (2005). On television she won Emmys for Grey Gardens (2009) and for American Horror Story, and on Broadway she won a Tony Award for Long Day's Journey into Night.

A first
In 1982, Lange earned two Academy Award nominations in a single year, for Frances and for Tootsie, becoming the first performer to do so in 40 years. She won Best Supporting Actress for Tootsie.
First role
Lange's first film was the 1976 King Kong. She won the part of the damsel-in-distress over Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.
A role that slipped away
Before Shelley Duvall took the part, Lange was among those considered to play Wendy Torrance in Stanley Kubrick's horror film The Shining, released in 1980.
