Plot summary
In 1934, Frank Chambers, a drifter, comes to eat at a diner near Los Angeles and takes a job there. Cora Smith runs the place with Nick Papadakis, her husband, a Greek immigrant who is much older than she is, hardworking but without imagination. Cora is unhappy: she does not love Nick and wants to own and improve the diner. An affair begins between Cora and Frank, and the two of them scheme to kill Nick so they can begin a new life together without losing the diner.
