Plot summary
Harry Fabian is a fast-talking lawyer in New York who spends his time at Boxers, the bar Phil Nasseros owns with his wife Helen. Harry and Helen are having an affair, and Helen wants a bar of her own and a life away from Phil. A newspaper item about a man beaten by a boxer gives Harry an idea: he phones the man and pitches a lawsuit arguing the fighter's fists are legally weapons, but the judge calls the case baseless. The boxer's promoter, Ira "Boom Boom" Grossman, wants Harry gone. Harry turns to promoting fights himself, filing for a license and teaming with Al Grossman, a prizefighter and Boom Boom's estranged brother.
