Plot summary
Thérèse Raquin is a young woman in Paris in the 1860s. Her domineering aunt, Madame Raquin, pushed her into a marriage with her own sickly son, Camille, and the union brings her no affection. Thérèse works in a small shop and spends her evenings watching her aunt play dominoes with a group of acquaintances. Laurent LeClaire, a friend of Camille's from childhood, becomes her lover.
