Trailer

Plot summary

Umbrella gunships storm the freighter Arcadia, and Alice is taken prisoner during the assault. She wakes inside a secret Umbrella base under the water, where the brainwashed Jill Valentine questions her about what became of her friends. When the power fails, Alice escapes her cell and battles her way through a simulation of a Tokyo street. There she meets Ada Wong, one of Albert Wesker's agents, who says the Red Queen now runs Umbrella and that Wesker has sent a crew to bring them out. Leon S. Kennedy, Barry Burton and Luther West plant explosives at the base entrance and arrange to meet the women in a simulated suburb. That suburb holds a household where a woman who resembles Alice lives with a husband and a deaf daughter, Becky.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • On 11 October 2011, during the second day of filming, a platform collapsed on the set and injured 16 people; ten were taken to hospital. Emergency workers had trouble telling real injuries from fakes because the performers were dressed in zombie costumes with fake blood.
  • A promotional stunt planned for the film had Milla Jovovich come out with a gun and pretend to shoot "zombies" in a theater. In response to the Aurora shootings she declined the stunt, saying: "There's absolutely no way I'm doing anything violent in a movie theater."
  • Li Bingbing did not appear at the film's premiere, which reporters speculated was a demonstration against the escalating dispute between China and Japan over the Senkaku Islands. Her agent said she was too busy in Beijing but did not deny politics were involved, saying: "We are in line with our government - the Diaoyu Islands belong to China."
  • The streets of Red Square were cleared for a day for filming, and background shooting took place in the Russian subway after it was cleared for five hours, although the station scene itself was actually shot at Toronto's abandoned Lower Bay station.
  • Resident Evil: Retribution broke the series record for the highest worldwide opening with $49.6 million, beating out the over $39 million opening of its predecessor, Afterlife.
