Biography

Patrick Malahide is a British stage and screen actor. Born in Reading, Berkshire, England, he studied experimental psychology at the University of Edinburgh, where he joined the Dramatic Society and appeared at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. His television debut came in 1976, and he made his film debut in Sweeney 2. From 1979 to 1988, he played Detective Sergeant Albert Chisholm in Minder. He later appeared in The Singing Detective (1986), Middlemarch (1994), and The Inspector Alleyn Mysteries (1993 to 1994). His film credits include Comfort and Joy (1984), A Month in the Country (1987), The World Is Not Enough (1999), Brideshead Revisited (2008), Mortal Engines (2018), and The Protégé (2021). On television, he portrayed Balon Greyjoy in Game of Thrones from 2012 to 2016 and had a recurring role in Luther from 2015 to 2019.
