Plot summary

John Lyshitski has served three sentences at Rossmore State Penitentiary, and he lays all of them at the door of Judge Nelson Biederman III, the judge who presided each time. John means to get even, but he learns the judge died three days before his own release. He turns to the judge's son, Nelson Biederman IV, and breaks into the younger man's car to empty his emergency inhaler. At a pharmacy, the panicked search for a replacement makes the owners think he is a violent robber, and police arrest him. Charged with felony assault, Nelson asks the Biederman Foundation for a defense; the board gives him a team that serves him badly, and a jury convicts him. John then has himself arrested again and arranges to serve his time in the same prison as Nelson.
