Plot summary
In the summer of 1988, Matt Franklin has an MIT degree but no direction. He works behind the counter at a Suncoast Video store in Los Angeles, and his father, an LAPD officer, has lost patience with him. Then Tori Frederking, his old high school crush, walks in. Matt tells her he works at Goldman Sachs, and she invites him to a Labor Day party hosted by Kyle, the boyfriend of his twin sister, Wendy. Matt's best friend, Barry Nathan, was fired from a car dealership that day, and he steals a Mercedes convertible there, saying Matt needs it to impress Tori.

- The film sat on a shelf for four years. Shooting finished in 2007, but Universal held it back until 2011, and star Topher Grace said the studio simply did not know how to sell a youth comedy in which characters take cocaine.
- The title comes from Eddie Money's 1986 song, which turns up in the theatrical trailer and on the Blu-ray and DVD menu screens. The song itself is never heard anywhere in the actual film.
