Biography

Awkwafina is an American actress and rapper who first drew attention with a viral rap video and went on to build a career in comedy and film. Raised in Forest Hills, Queens, she released the album Yellow Ranger, hosted the web talk show Tawk, and appeared on the MTV series Girl Code and its spin-off Girl Code Live. Supporting parts followed in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Ocean's 8 (2018), Crazy Rich Asians (2018) and Jumanji: The Next Level (2019). Her lead role in The Farewell (2019) brought her a Golden Globe Award for best actress in a comedy or musical. She played Katy in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (2021), voiced Sisu in Raya and the Last Dragon (2021), and co-created, wrote and starred in Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens. She won a Primetime Emmy Award for producing Quiz Lady (2023).
