Plot summary
Prue McKeel disobeys her parents and takes her baby brother Mac outside, where a murder of crows seizes him. Prue and her classmate Curtis chase the birds into the Impassable Wilderness, a forest closed to outsiders. Anthropomorphic coyotes led by Maxim pursue them; Curtis distracts the pack so Prue can get away and is brought before Alexandra, a dowager governess who says she is warring with bandits over ancestral land. Prue reaches the governor's mansion, is held there to hide her arrival, then escapes and contacts the avian prince Owl Rex. Curtis remains in Alexandra's care, while Prue looks for a way to continue the search for Mac.

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Crafting the eagle was among Wildwood's unique challenges, and its animation was primarily done by Dobin Yanez over the course of four years.
- Because the crows were so complex to use, they were made digitally from scans of hand-sculpted feathers, beaks, eyes and feet, while facial animation was 3D printed and added frame by frame, with up to 24 printed faces per puppet per second of film.
- The production built 136 sets and 231 practical puppets, with 3D printing used for armatures, puppet musculature and simulated water.
- It is the first Laika film to be rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association, and it also received a 12A rating from the British Board of Film Classification.
