Plot summary
Wolf, Shark, Piranha, Tarantula and Snake have left their criminal days behind, but settling into ordinary life proves difficult: their job hunt comes to nothing, and Snake is often away from the house. Wolf passes his time with Diane Foxington, the state governor, and the two grow closer though their public roles keep them apart. Wanting to give people a reason to trust the crew, Wolf joins Police Commissioner Misty Luggins in the hunt for the Phantom Bandit, a thief no one has been able to trace. Suspicion falls on Snake until the others learn that he has been keeping company with Susan, a raven. At a lucha libre wrestling tournament the crew tries to expose the bandit and is instead blamed for the Phantom Bandit's crimes. Wolf calls Diane, who agrees to help them.

- A trans first assistant editor on the film sued DreamWorks Animation and NBCUniversal in March 2026, alleging gender-based harassment by their supervisor, John Venzon, the editor of the first film, who deadnamed them, sent transphobic internet memes and outed them to co-workers.
- The animation was split between two studios: DreamWorks Animation did pre-production in-house plus about 50% of the asset build and one hour of animation, while Sony Pictures Imageworks handled the other 50% of assets and 20 minutes of finished shots.
