Plot summary
Katie Kim, a former child actor, comes to Los Angeles hoping to return to show business. She has no idea that California, short on money by 2030, now runs the Grand Lottery, in which the random winner must survive until sundown while anyone holding a losing ticket is free to kill them for the prize; only guns are banned. Katie rents a room from Shadi and her boyfriend DJ and, after a disappointing audition, accidentally wins a $3.6 billion jackpot. The crowd around her attacks at once. Noel Cassidy, a freelance protection agent, offers to keep her alive for ten percent of the money and tells her a drone will post her location every fourteen minutes, but that she can leave the Lottery by reaching the Grapevine outside the city.
