Plot summary
Amelia, Rebecca, Lily, and Chloe are best friends in the closing weeks of senior year. Lily and Chloe both hope to study in New York City, Chloe at NYU and Lily at Columbia, and the group plans to attend prom together. Rebecca develops a crush on Mr. Bemis, the librarian at their school, and Amelia deals with her parents' divorce. Chloe, still grieving, is accepted to NYU but considers UCSB to remain near her family; her friend Sam comforts her, and she agrees to go to prom with him. Lily, busy organizing school celebrations, hands off some of her responsibilities and declines Noah's serenade invitation.
