Biography

Walter Gotell was a German-British actor best known as KGB General Gogol in the James Bond films. By the early 1950s he had more established roles in The African Queen (1951), Ice Cold in Alex (1958), The Guns of Navarone (1961), The Road to Hong Kong (1962), and Lord Jim (1965). His first Bond appearance was as the henchman Morzeny in From Russia with Love (1963); he later played Gogol in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), A View to a Kill (1985), and The Living Daylights (1987). On television he was Chief Constable Cullen in Softly, Softly: Task Force (1969 to 1975) and guest-starred in many series.
