Plot summary
Valiant is a young and inexperienced squire at Camelot who rides under the name of Sir Gawain. He is sent to accompany Lady Ilene, a Welsh princess and a guest of King Arthur's court, on her journey home. He does not know that Arthur's sister Morgan Le Fey has retrieved a spellbook from Merlin's tomb, or that she has convinced Sligon, the Viking warlord who rules over the kingdom of Thule, to take the magical sword Excalibur at a jousting tournament. Valiant and Ilene are both drawn into the struggle over the sword, with Morgan and the Vikings against them.
