Lois Maxwell
Biography
Lois Maxwell was a Canadian actress whose career began after she trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Born in Kitchener, Ontario, in 1927, she made her first film appearances in 1946 and won the inaugural Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomer for That Hagen Girl (1947). She then moved to Rome, where she worked in Italian cinema as an actress and dubber, before settling in the United Kingdom and taking television roles. Maxwell became best known as Miss Moneypenny, playing the character in the first 14 Eon James Bond films, from Dr. No (1962) to A View to a Kill (1985). Her Bond appearances included Goldfinger (1964), Thunderball (1965), You Only Live Twice (1967), Live and Let Die (1973), Moonraker (1979), and Octopussy (1983). She also appeared in the spy spoofs O.K. Connery and From Hong Kong with Love, and had a minor role in Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962). She died in 2007.
