Plot summary
Angela Baker escapes from a mental hospital and arrives at Camp Rolling Hills as a counselor using the name Angela Johnson. Five years after the murders at Camp Arawak, she enforces a strict moral code on her teenage campers. The campers include Molly, Ally, Mare, Demi, Lea and the sisters Brooke and Jodi. Uncle John and T.C. run the camp. Teens who break Angela's rules are killed, and the other campers are told the missing ones were sent home.

In the UK the film was retitled Nightmare Vacation 2 and more than two minutes were cut, including Phoebe's tongue removal and Ally's drowning in an outhouse, so it could get an 18 certificate under the Video Recordings Act 1984.- Felissa Rose, who played Angela Baker in the original Sleepaway Camp, was asked to reprise the role but was busy enrolling at New York University, so it was recast with Pamela Springsteen, the younger sister of rock musician Bruce.
- Because actors including Terry Hobbs and Amy Fields were underage, Georgia Department of Labor representatives were on set to keep them out of scenes with sex and nudity and to be present during graphic kills or profanity.
- Amy Fields was first cast as Brooke Shote but child labor laws stopped her playing the part, so she was moved to Jodi Shote and Carol Chambers took over as Brooke.
- The dream sequence in which Angela appears was shot only to pad Sleepaway Camp II out to the required 80-minute running time.
- The song "Outta Control" was written and performed by John Altyn, and its recording used a custom-made guitar originally intended for Elliot Easton of The Cars, a Rockman digital effects unit and Slingerland drums played by Johnny "O" Bellon.
