Biography
Vanessa Kirby is a British actress who began her career on stage before becoming known for film and television work. She made her professional debut in 2010 at the Octagon Theatre Bolton, where she appeared in All My Sons and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Further stage roles followed at the National Theatre and the Young Vic, and she won a Best Supporting Actress prize at the 2014 Whatsonstage Awards for A Streetcar Named Desire. Her breakthrough came as Princess Margaret in the Netflix drama The Crown, which brought her a BAFTA for Best Supporting Actress. On screen she appeared in About Time (2013), Me Before You (2016), Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019) and two Mission: Impossible films, then won the Volpi Cup and an Academy Award nomination for Pieces of a Woman (2020). Other credits include The World to Come (2021), The Son (2022), Napoleon (2023) and The Fantastic 4: First Steps (2025).

Kirby met the theater director David Thacker after signing to a talent agency. In 2010 he gave her three starring roles at the Octagon Theatre Bolton, including All My Sons, for which she won the BIZA Rising Star Award, worth £5,000.

Kirby joined the cast of the French thriller Suddenly, also known as Soudain Seuls, in 2019, alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. After Gyllenhaal and director Thomas Bidegain disagreed, the film was rewritten and recast.
