Plot summary
One ordinary day in New York City, a woman walks out of a hardware store and finds she has forgotten everything, leaving her dog tied up outside. She cannot answer basic questions about herself, though she believes she may be a vegetarian. She wanders the streets for an unclear stretch of time. At a diner she talks with a teenager, and in a corner shop she argues with the attendant because she has no money. In another shop she takes a few things and leaves quickly. At a small hotel she asks for the key to room 234 but cannot give a name. She sleeps in a stairwell.
