Plot summary
Lynette juggles low-wage jobs at a bakery and a bar in Portland, Oregon, while caring for Kenny, her older brother with Down syndrome. She has saved $25,000 for the down payment on the house they rent with their mother, Doreen, hoping to secure stability for Kenny and keep him out of state care. Because Lynette's credit is bad, the homeowner, David, has given them until nine the next morning to complete the purchase, and Doreen must co-sign the loan. On closing day, Lynette comes home to find that Doreen has spent all $25,000 on a new car, saying she will not be financially trapped by a house that reminds her of her estranged husband. With eviction ahead, Lynette has less than a day to find the full $25,000.
