Red West
Biography
Red West was an American actor, stuntman, and songwriter who was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and built much of his career in Hollywood around Elvis Presley. He took small roles in sixteen of Presley's 1960s films and co-wrote songs for him, including Separate Ways and If You Talk in Your Sleep, while his material was also recorded by Pat Boone, Rick Nelson, and Petula Clark. His physical ability earned him a stunt job on the television series The Rebel, and he went on to steady stunt and acting work, frequently playing a henchman on The Wild Wild West. He played Sheriff Tanner in Walking Tall (1973) and reprised the part in Walking Tall Part II (1975), and he was Red Webster in Road House (1989). He starred as William in Goodbye Solo (2009), a performance praised by critic Roger Ebert, and his last film role was in Safe Haven (2013). He died in 2017.

Big break
West struck up a friendship with actor Nick Adams, and Adams gave him work as a stuntman on his television series The Rebel because of West's physical abilities.
Behind the camera
West and Elvis Presley worked together on two songs, "That's Someone You Never Forget" and "You'll Be Gone", in 1961 and 1962, and Presley got a token credit on them.
