Plot summary
Buford Pusser is sheriff in a Tennessee town in the late 1960s. Moonshiners and a crime syndicate work there, and his wife has been murdered. He is out to avenge her, and he wages a one-man war against them. He blows up their moonshine operation. The syndicate answers by hiring two killers, one of them a race car driver, the other a gunslinger.

- In August 2025 the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation implicated the real Buford Pusser in the 1967 murder of his wife Pauline, contradicting the story of him that the film depicts.
- Joe Don Baker, who played Buford Pusser in the first film, declined to reprise the role, and Pusser himself had agreed to take his own role but died in an automobile accident before filming began.
