Plot summary
Jim Brandon played for the Chicago Bears before the Vietnam War left him paralyzed from the waist down. Back in his home town, he looks for work as a football coach and is turned down. Then a visit to the Illinois State Training School for Boys in St. Charles gives him a different idea, and he decides to take the coaching job there, drawn by the challenge. The boys at the school are young delinquents who do not accept him. Brandon works to win them over while teaching them the game, and he pushes the team to succeed on the field.
